Libiyan Uprising
- This was being fought between those seeking to depose Muammar Gaddafi and hold democratic elections. The situation began as a series of peaceful protests which Gaddafi's security forces attempted to repress.
- The situation escalated into armed conflict, with rebels establishing a coalition named the Transitional National Council.
- The international Criminal court warned Gaddafi that he and members of his governement may have comitted crimes against humanity.

Pakistan Govenor Assassinated
A Pakistani politician who stood up against the country's tough anti-blasphemy laws has been gunned down and killed by one of his own bodyguards in a brazen daylight attack in the capital Islamabad.Govenor Salman Taseer was shot and killed January 4, 2011. Mr Taseer was a member of the ruling Pakistan People's Party.

- The pakistan floods began in late july 2010, resulting from heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sindh.
- Approxmiately one-fith of pakistan's total land area was underwater
- An estimated 14 million people were affected, 1,245 people died.
There was not positive in any way.
This was negative because people lost land, farms, homes, and others died.
This didnt affect me.

Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico
- 200,000 gallons a day were spilled which equalled a total 3,600,000 gallons
- Hundreds of thousands of fish and animals died b/c of the spill
- seafood, fishing, and tourist industries were ruined
- Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida was affected by the spill

War in Afghanistan (bloodiest war)
- The never-ending was in Afghanistan replaced the war in Iraq as the most important, and most controversial.
- The 9th year has been the bloodiest, with 700 allied troops killed. Among the 700, 497 were U.S. troops compared to the 317 killed in 2001
- Most were killed by road-side bombs-with children suffering the worst. There was a 21% increase in child deaths in 2010
Earthquake in Japan Causes Tsunami
On March 11, 2011 Japan was hit with an earthquake measured at 8.9 on the Richter scale. But the problems didn't end there...this earthquake that was recorded as one of the worst earthquakes in history then caused a tsunami that reached up to 23 feet of water. These two horrible events caused massive power outages across Japan. And the United States, being the nice people that we are:), put aside 30 international search and rescue teams to assist Japan!

33 Miners Survive Being Buried For 69 Days!!
After being trapped for 69 days underground, out of the 33 Chile miners they ALL survived. They were united with their families on October 12, 2011. It took them 22 hours to get ALL miners out from being trapped. What was positive about this? What was negitive about this? How did YOU respond to this event happening?
